Footscray Dream Factory

Footscray, VIC

"Working with Creative Suburbs has been fantastic. They bring a very unique engagement methodology with both the local community and businesses. By co-designing spaces and events with the local community, this gives people a sense of connectedness to the spaces they have contributed to."

- Garry Williams, Inspire 9

In June and July 2017, Creative Suburbs worked with Inspire9 (the original coworking community in Melbourne) to help launch its new coworking space at the iconic Dream Factory building (the site of the former Lonely Planet building) in Footscray.

Given the rapid growth of Footscray, this space activation served as an opportunity to connect many community groups, local businesses, social enterprises of the area that are doing great things.

We designed and built a temporary warehouse space (Space9) with the addition of street art, which was available for use by the public, becoming a community hub over the period of the activation. In partnership with Inspire9, we also designed 4 weeks’ worth of free event programming (focusing on 'start up' culture and health x well-being) for the Inner West Community. This, in turn, culminated in a fun family friendly official launch day for the Dream Factory showcasing many amazing tech start ups, local businesses, social enterprises, food trucks, live music and coffee!
